Trainer: Dr. Philippe Solot

He has over 25 years of experience in the use of methods from applied mathematics in the process industry. He has coached many training sessions on various topics, including material flow simulation. His wide practical knowledge allows him to make even technical concepts easily understandable by participants.

Dr. Solot holds an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, both from the EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne).

Course Description

You already have basic knowledge in material flow simulation, have applied it to at least a few problems of the process industry, but you would like to be able to model also more complex processes realistically? This advanced course will enable you to extend your expertise and build practical experience by examining a range of typical complex situations. After the course, participants will be able to perform material flow analyses with confidence even when dealing with intricate real-world contexts, and hence to avoid unnecessary investments also in such cases.

What Are You Going to Learn?

Building on Part A, this course focuses on how to model more specific operations with material flow simulation, in particular using the user-friendly software SIMBAX. You will learn to model effectively semi-continuous processes, similar recipes in large multipurpose plants, container traffic, synchronized process stages, varying batch sizes, and resource availability restrictions. The analysis of complex Gantt charts will also be practised. Hands-on exercises inspired by real industrial case studies will provide you additional practical experience in analysing complex production systems.

Who Should Attend?

  • Process engineers who want to benefit from the optimization possibilities that exist at the logistic level (debottlenecking)

  • Production managers who want to fully use the potential of existing plants by systematically eliminating conflicts between production flows

  • Managers who want to learn about the various applications of material flow simulation
